History MISSION STATEMENT OF ST. CLARE OF ASSISI PARISH WE, THE PEOPLE OF ST. CLARE OF ASSISI PARISH, A CATHOLIC FAITH COMMUNITY WITH A PROUD HERITAGE, RICH IN DIVERSITY AND STRONG IN UNITY; GATHER IN WORSHIP, EDUCATION, SERVICE, CELEBRATION, AND FELLOWSHIP; PLEDGE TO LIVE AND GROW IN THE GOSPEL MESSAGE, TO USE GOD'S GIFTS FOR THE BENEFIT OF ALL, AND TO SPREAD THE VIRTUES OF FAITH, HOPE, LOVE THROUGHOUT OUR WORLD AS WE WAIT IN JOYFUL HOPE FOR THE COMING OF OUR SAVIOR, JESUS CHRIST. History of St. Anthony of Padua Church On June 24, 1906 at 5:00 P.M. on a Sunday afternoon, Bishop Garvey blessed and laid the cornerstone for St. Anthony of Padua Church. The Church was established to serve the Italian people of Johnstown and was staffed by the Franciscans, T.O.R. Churches Merge Saint Anthony of Padua and Saint Peter and Saint Paul merged to become Saint Clare of Assisi.
