Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Unborn

Our Lady of Guadalupe, pregnant with the unborn Christ Child, Star of the New Evangelization, Mother of Divine Mercy, Holy Mary Pray For Us.

In 1999,
Pope John Paul II
entrusted
the cause of life
to Our Lady of
Guadalupe's loving protection, and placed under her motherly care the innocent lives of children, especially those who are in danger of not being born.

Mary is believed to be pregnant with Jesus in this image of herself that was miraculously imprinted on Juan Diego's tilma.

Just as Mary crushed the serpent, putting an end to the bloody human sacrifice of the Aztecs, we look to Mary to crush the abortion death camps, putting an end to the bloody human sacrifice of the Culture of Death.

Guadalupe isn't a Place!

It is believed that Our Lady used the Aztec word of coatlaxopeuh, which translates to " one who crushes the serpent" and sounds remarkably like the Spanish word Guadalupe as she spoke to St. Juan Diego in his native tongue. The Aztecs offered at least 20,000 men, women and children in human sacrifices to their gods each year. Within a few years of Mary's apparition, millions of the natives were converted to Christianity.

The Virgin Mary's Call to End Abortion

These tapes show how the Church's teachings about Mary strengthen the pro-life commitment.

The Story of Our Lady of Guadalupe

It was before dawn on December 9, 1531, when Juan Diego began his 3 1/2 hour journey to attend Mass in Mexico City, 14 miles away from his home. On the way as he neared the hill of Tepeyac, he was startled by unusual sounds - a choir of birds! - then silence - then a young girl's voice calling to him. As he reached the top of the hill, he beheld Mary, her face shining like the sun, garment glittering, and everything about her in splendor. The Blessed Virgin Mary called him "Juanito, Juan Dieguito", "the most humble of my sons". She asked him to go to the Bishop and tell him what he saw and heard and that she wished a church to be built on this very spot.

The bishop listened patiently to the peasant's story but did not take it seriously. Juan Diego returned to Mary saddened and asked if she could send someone else. "I am a nobody", he told her - aware of was a member of his lack of credibility before the Bishop as a member of the lowest and largest class in the Aztec Empire.

"You are the one I have chosen", said the lady and back to the bishop again he went. The Bishop asked for a sign. The next morning on his way to Mary's hill, he stopped to see his dying uncle. His uncle asked Juan Diego to get a priest to administer last rights. Juan Diego decided to get the priest first and then go to Mary so he went along a different path. Mary appeared to him and told him that his uncle was healed and the sign was to bring the Bishop flowers! How could he find flowers on a frozen hill? Climbing to the top he found beautiful roses, which he excitedly gathered into his cloak or tilma. As Juan Diego dropped his cloak the roses fell to the floor. At once the bishop and others in the room fell to their knees. For upon the tilma was the amazing image of beautiful Aztec maiden.

Mary had left an image of herself imprinted miraculously on his tilma, a poor quality cactus-cloth, which should have deteriorated in 20 years but shows no sign of decay over 400 years later and still defies all scientific explanations of its origin.
It even reflects in her eyes what was in front of her in 1531!

An incredible list of miracles, cures and interventions are attributed to Her. The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe is celebrated on December 12th. In 1999, Pope John Paul II entrusted the cause of life to her loving protection, and placed under her motherly care the innocent lives of children, especially those who are in danger of not being born.

Juan Diego worked hard and was a very devoted, religious man, even before his conversion. He was a solitary, mystical character, prone to spells of silence and frequent penance. He was 57 years old, when the average age was only 40.

Juan Diego deeply loved the Holy Eucharist, and by special permission of the Bishop he received Holy Communion three times a week, a highly unusual occurrence in those times. On July 2002 Juan Diego was canonized a saint. Pope John Paul II praised Juan Diego for his simple faith and presents him to us as a model of humility. St. Juan Diego's feast day is December 9th.

Juan Diego's uncle had seen Mary as he was healed. She told him that she wished to be known as the ever-virgin Holy Mary of "quatlasupe", the pronunciation of the Aztec word coatlaxopeuh, "one who crushes the serpent".
